Bergstrom, Dunne Lead 49ers At Adidas UC Irvine Invitational

IRVINE, Calif. - Senior Tim Bergstrom and and junior Kathleen Dunne were the top runners for the Long Beach State men's and women's cross country teams at the adidas/UC Irvine Invitational on Saturday morning at the Anteater Recreation Center.
Bergstrom crossed the finish line in the men's 8,000-meter race in second place with a time of 25:22.45, leading the 49ers to second with 35 points. LBSU placed three runners in the top-10 as juniors Kevin Ramirez finished in fifth (25:29.27) and Sam Bautista finished in ninth (25:37.75).
Freshman Andres Barragan made his collegiate debut for the Beach, placing 14th (25:59.81), while senior Cameron Pantoja crossed the line in 18th (26:11.87) and junior Cameron Ford finished in 34th (26:48.80).
Meet hosts UC Irvine captured the team title, leading the 13-team field with 31 points, while unattached runner John Gilbertson finished in first in a time of 24:46.73.
On the women's side, Dunne completed the 5K course in eighth in a time of 18:28.50, leading the 49ers to eighth with 194 points.
Junior Pauline Mandel finished in 41st (19:28.36), followed by fellow classmate Ashley Carrera in 50th (19:40.70) and sophomore Valeria Soto in 56th (19:47.33). Making her collegiate debut, freshman Janet Salazar placed 57th (19:48.33), followed by sophomore Mikayla Florez in 68th (20:05.92)
Biola won the team title, leading the 15-team field with 82 points, while Aminat Olowora of Southwestern finished in first with a time of 17:14.82.
The 49ers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 12, traveling to the Inland Empire for the UC Riverside Invitational.
