Dunne, Ramirez Lead 49ers At UC Riverside Invitational

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Long Beach State juniors Kathleen Dunne and Kevin Ramirez were the top runners for the 49ers at the UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday morning.
Ramirez led the way for the Beach in the men's 8,000-meter race as the 49ers finished in fifth-place with 153 points. Ramirez ran a personal-best of 24:42.9, clipping his previous mark by two seconds (24:44.9).
Southern Utah captured the team title as the Thunderbirds led the 23-team field with 153 points. UC Santa Barbara placed second (72 pts.), followed by Cal Poly Pomona in third (100) and UC Davis in fourth (117).
Junior Sam Bautista recorded a personal-best of 24:59.2 (31st), beating his previous best by five seconds. Redshirt senior Tim Bergstrom placed 34th (25:06.1), while junior Emilio Nunez finished in 40th (25:16.2) and freshman Andres Barragan crossed the line in 48th (25:23.7).
On the women's side, Dunne finished in 17th place in the women's 6,000-meter race, posting a personal-best of 21:30.3. The Camarillo, Calif. native eclisped her previous best in the 6K by more than a minute, recording a time of 22:35.3 (64th) at last year's UC Riverside Invitational.
LBSU finished in ninth-place with 255 points. Arkansas won the team title as the Razorbacks led the 15-team field with 27 points. UC Davis placed second (86), followed by UC Santa Barbara in third (128), meet host UC Riverside in fourth (135) and San Diego State in fifth (149).
Junior Ashley Carrera tied her personal-best in the 6K with a time of 22:30.3 (52nd), followed by junior Valeria Soto (22:42.4 - 61st), redshirt junior Pauline Mandel (23:00.2 - 72nd) and sophomore Mikayla Florez (23:11.5 - 76th).
Freshman Janet Salazar placed 86th (23:42.5) and sophomore Alexandra Lathos finished in 98th (25:13.9).
The 49ers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 26, when the Beach will have a split squad travel to Minnesota for the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by Minnesota and San Bernardino for the Coyote Classic hosted by Cal State San Bernardino.
