LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Another Big West title is within reach as the No. 40 Long Beach State women's tennis team hosts No. 57 UC Santa Barbara on Friday. The match is also the start to a three-match homestand to end the 2015 regular season.
THE MATCHUP
- At 12-7 overall, UCSB is one of four ranked teams in the Big West, joining Long Beach State, CSUN and UC Irvine.
- The 49ers and Gauchos are two of the top three teams in the conference, along with UC Irvine. The Beach leads the conference at 6-0 while UCSB is 4-1 and UCI is 5-1.
- LBSU leads the all-time series with UCSB 24-11 and has won the last six in a row. UCSB's last win was a narrow 4-3 decision in 2011.
TITLE ON THE LINE
- The Big West Conference has only been awarding regular season titles since 2006 and Long Beach State has claimed seven of the nine. A win on Friday over UCSB will make it a dominating eight out of 10.
- As the only unbeaten team left in the Big West, Long Beach State would lock up the Big West regular season title and a top-seed in the Big West Tournament with a win on Friday.
- After Friday's match with UCSB, Beach Tennis has only on conference matchup left against UC Riverside.
BIG WEST DYNASTY
- Long Beach State has been dominating the Big West for over a decade but has been nearly untouchable in the last couple of years.
- Beach Tennis has won 18 consecutive Big West regular season matches, dating back to the midway point of 2013.
- This year, the Beach has been a wrecking ball through the conference. In six matches, the 49ers are a combined 35-5 and have won all six doubles points.
BEACH DUO REACHES 25 WINS
- Karolina Rozenberg and Maeva Razakasoa both went 2-for-2 in singles matches last week with one left unfinished to get their 25th singles wins of the year. Laura Eales will join the club with her next win and Ebba Unden currently has 22 wins.
- The senior, Rozenberg, has put together a dominant career with an 89-26 career singles record. She is 53-11 in dual matches and a dominating 21-1 in the Big West. She has won 15 consecutive Big West matches, dating back to the end of the 2013 season.
