LONG BEACH, Calif. -- One last road trip is ahead for the 30th-ranked Long Beach State women's tennis team and it is the longest one in terms of mileage. The Beach heads to the Midwest this week for a trio of spring break matches in Illinois.
THE MATCHUPS
· The Beach begins its trip with a 3:30 p.m. (PT) match against DePaul on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the 49ers head to UIC for a 9 a.m. match and the road trip wraps up on Thursday with a 3 p.m. match at Illinois.
· The Beach is 1-0 against DePaul, 4-0 against UIC and has never met the University of Illinois until this week.
· Two of this week's three opponents are also in the national rankings as of last Tuesday's release with DePaul checking in at No. 40 and Illinois at No. 66.
ROZENBERG KEEPS CLIMBING
· As the career of senior Karolina Rozenberg inches toward the finish line, she is vaulting up the record book. Her 164 total career wins ranks sixth all-time but is just a handful of wins away from fifth. She will next leapfrog former teammate Sarah Cantlay, who has 169 career wins.
· On the singles side, Rozenberg has already accomplished her third 20-win season and is on track for a career year. She is 23-4 on the year, raising her career win total to 87.
· She currently ranks fifth on the all-time single wins chart and is just one win behind Rachel Manasse. With a 3-for-3 week, Rozenberg would become just the fourth Beach tennis student-athlete to reach 90 career singles wins.
HISTORY REPEAT
· For the second year in a row, the Beach looks to be on track to have four players reach 25 singles wins. A feat that had not been accomplished in Beach history prior to last season.
· Maeva Razakasoa and Karolina Rozenberg each have 23 win a piece while Julie Gerard is one behind with 22 wins. Ebba Unden notched her 21st singles victory last week.
BIG WEST DYNASTY
· The Beach is taking a break from Big West tennis this weekend but is now within one win of another Big West Conference title as it enters the home stretch of the schedule.
· At 6-0, the Beach has a firm lead in the standings. Only UC Santa Barbara remains unscathed with a 3-0 record. The Gauchos visit Rhodes Tennis Center on Friday, April 10. A Beach win would lock up the top seed in the Big West Tournament and keep the Big West regular season title at the Beach.
