LONG BEACH, Calif. - The season-opening road trip continues this week as the No. 40 Long Beach State women's tennis team heads to LMU for a Friday match. The lone match of the week concludes the three-match road swing for the Beach to open the dual season.
REGULAR SEASON WIN STREAK
· With a pair of victories last week, the Beach extended its regular win streak into double digits. Beach tennis has won 10 regular season matches in a row, dating back to March 19 of last year.
· During the streak, the Beach has won by a score of at least 5-2 nine out of 10 times. Only Harvard pushed the Beach to 4-3 in the last 10 regular season matches.
THE OPPONENTS
· LMU enters this Friday's match with a 1-3 record. However, all three losses have come to ranked opponents, including a narrow 4-3 loss to No. 73 UC Irvine in its last match.
COUNT UP TO 300
· Head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello is already the school record holder for career wins and is closing in on another milestone this season. With two wins last week, Hilt-Costello picked up career wins Nos. 293 and 294.
· With just six more wins to go to reach the benchmark, Hilt-Costello could reach 300 as early as Feb. 28 if the Beach remains unbeaten.
THREE PLAYERS STILL UNBEATEN
· Three 49ers remained unbeaten through the first two dual matches of the season. Karolina Rozenberg, Laura Eales and Julie Gerard all won both doubles and singles matchups last weekend to start the spring 4-0.
· Rozenberg continued her sparkling senior season, improving to 13-2 in singles this year and 11-3 in doubles. She is up to 145 career wins.
· The Beach was also perfect at seven of the nine lineup slots in its first two matches. With the three undefeated players leading the way, Beach tennis did not drop a match at Nos. 3-6 singles or Nos. 2-3 doubles.
