Former LBSU Coach And Basketball Hall Of Famer Jerry Tarkanian Has Died At 84

Long Beach, Calif. - Former Long Beach State Men's Basketball Coach and basketball legend Jerry Tarkanian died Wednesday after being hospitalized earlier in the week. Tarkanian had been the coaching wins leader at Long Beach State until this year, and led the Beach to a pair of Elite Eight appearances.
In five seasons at the Beach, Tarkanian piled up 122 wins, and led the 49ers to four NCAA Tournament appearances. All seven NCAA tournament wins in program history came under his leadership.
Long Beach State went 40-2 in conference play under Tarkanian, and won four PCAA Championships. During his time at Long Beach State, the 49ers never lost a home game.
Tarkanian went on to coach at UNLV, where he led the Runnin' Rebels to a national championship and four Final Four appearances, as well as Fresno State.
He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013, and was a 1987 inductee into the Long Beach State Athletics Hall of Fame.
