LONG BEACH, Calif. – Highly recruited French guard Yohann Sissoko is the latest addition to the program from head coach Chris Acker and his staff, securing the services of the 6-5 guard after one season at Florida Atlantic.
Yohann Sissoko | Guard | 6-5, 205 | Paris, France
Sissoko played for one season as a true freshman at FAU, playing in 27 games with the Owls. An effective shooter, Sissoko shot 42.9% from three on the year and averaged 3.3 points and 1.7 rebounds in just over 10 minutes per game in his first season. Playing for ASVEL in the U21 league in France, Sissoko was a highly regarded international recruit, averaging 20.7 points, 7.1 rebounds and 7.1 assists per game prior to coming to the States. Sissoko has also represented the French National Team at youth levels, most recently playing in the U19 FIBA World Cup where he averaged 9.3 points and 2.3 assists per game.
Acker on Sissoko:
"Yohann Sissoko is a lead guard who brings a strong combination of size, feel, and leadership to our program. With valuable international experience and success, he has been exposed to high-level competition and understands how to manage the game, make the right reads, and elevate the players around him. What really separates Yohann is his speed at his size. He's able to push tempo, get downhill, and put pressure on the defense while still playing under control. He also shot over 40% from three, which adds another layer to his game and makes him a threat both on and off the ball. Yohann plays with great pace and composure, consistently making winning decisions, and his versatility, toughness, and basketball IQ allow him to impact the game on both ends. We're excited about the presence and stability he brings to the lead guard position as we continue building this team at the Beach."
Sissoko is the fourth Division I transfer to join Long Beach State in the summer period, joining Jack Payne of Idaho, Kaleb Smith of Grand Canyon and Noah Amenhauser of Oregon State.
