The veteran has spent three seasons in Division I basketball before coming to the Beach.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Coming off of a Big Sky Tournament championship and an NCAA appearance with Idaho, guard Jack Payne has committed to join Long Beach State for the 2026-27 season.
Jack Payne | Guard | 6-6, 195 | Boise, Idaho
Payne is an experienced guard who has spent the last two seasons at Idaho after previously playing with Colorado State. For the Vandals last season, Payne started in 22 games, averaging 6.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game while shooting 31.6% from three. That was on the heels of a season where he earned Honorable Mention All-Big Sky as a starter, scoring 10.8 points per game while shooting 36.2% from three.
Acker on Payne:
"Jack Payne brings valuable NCAA Tournament experience along with a skill set that impacts the game in a variety of ways. His shooting ability, toughness, and versatility make him a constant threat, whether he's spacing the floor or attacking off the bounce. Jack can slash, handle the basketball, and make high-level reads and decisions, giving him the flexibility to create for himself and others. Beyond his individual talent, he has a natural ability to bring teammates together and elevate those around him, making a winning impact on a program in so many ways. We're excited about the leadership, competitiveness, and all-around presence he adds to this team."
Payne is the second Division I transfer added by the Long Beach State coaching staff this offseason, joining Kaleb Smith of Grand Canyon.
