Beach Tennis Hosts Fall Tournament This Weekend

Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State women's tennis hosts the Beach Tennis Fall Tournament this weekend at Rhodes Tennis Center, welcoming players from eight other universities spanning five states. Wisconsin, Montana, Grand Canyon, Portland State, UCLA, Cal State Northridge, Cal State Fullerton, LMU and Long Beach State will all have players competing over the three-day event.
"We are very excited to host the third year of our Beach Tennis Fall tournament," said Long Beach State head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello. "We have a strong field of players and we are looking forward to playing some challenging matches."
In the singles competition, there will be a total of 56 competitors spread across four flights (A-D), with 16 players in each of the top three flights and eight in Flight D. There will also be two flights for doubles (A-B), with 16 pairs in each.
Long Beach State's own Maeva Razakasoa is the highest ranked player in the field, checking in at No. 100 in the ITA Division I preseason rankings. Wisconsin's Lauren Chypyha is tied for the No. 125 ranking in the country. Razakasoa and Chypyha are on opposite sides of the Flight A bracket.
The tournament gets underway Friday at 10 a.m. with the first round of doubles, followed by one round of singles action, then more doubles at 3:30 p.m.
Saturday's action begins with doubles at 9 a.m., followed by singles action the rest of the day. Championship and consolation matches will be held on Sunday morning with Doubles at 9 a.m. and singles at 11 a.m.
The tournament is single-elimination format, with all players and doubles pairs guaranteed a minimum of two matches. Upon elimination, players can sign up for additional matches.
