Long Beach, Calif. -
No. 7 Long Beach State will look to rebound from a three game skid with this weekend's win-lose Kap7 SoCal Invitational hosted by Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount. All 16 teams participating in the tournament are ranked in the Top 20.
LBSU will play No. 10 Air Force (4-9, 0-1) at the Burns Aquatics Center in LMU on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 9:20 a.m. The results of the first match will determine the schedule and location for the Beach for the rest of the tournament.
LBSU has four players scoring in double digits, led by senior Dimitrios Lappas with 12. Freshman Keegan Wicken and sophomore Duncan Lynde both have 11, and redshirt freshman Austin Stevenson rounds out the group with ten.
Senior Pavo Ljepopio notched his season-high in saves with 16 last week against UC Irvine. Wicken and Chandler Kaltenbach have both been consistent scorers for the Beach, both added on two goals last week.
Last year, the 49ers took fifth place in the tournament after defeating UC Davis in the first round then losing to California in the second. The Beach captured two wins the next day, though, against Pacific and UC San Diego to take fifth.
USC won the tournament last year with California taking second, Stanford took third and UCLA fourth.
The tournament will updated with times and opponents throughout the weekend on the Long Beach State website and Pepperdine website.
The 49ers will have a number of home matches after the tournament. Their home opener will be a double-header against Occidental College and UC San Diego at the Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center in LBSU on Oct. 15.
