LONG BEACH, Calif. - Long Beach State women's tennis head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello announced the signing of two English prep stars to National Letters of Intent. Alexandra Jones and Ella Monsey will join the Beach in January for its Big West title defense.
"We are thrilled to have Ella and Alex joining 'Beach Tennis' in January," commented Hilt-Costello. "Both are exactly what every coach wants in a recruit, very talented and extremely motivated to take their tennis to the next level."
Jones will make her way to the Beach from Essex, England, where she is currently ranked as the No. 18 U18 player in the country and the No. 1 player in her County. She has held the county's No. 1 ranking for the last four years and peaked at No. 10 in the UK's U18 rankings.
Monsey hails from Suffolk, England and is ranked as one of the top-100 tennis players in the country. She is currently ranked as the No. 15 U18 player in the UK but has peaked at No. 6. She holds a 3.1 rating from the UK's Lawn Tennis Association.
Both Monsey and Jones come to Long Beach State as accomplished doubles players. The duo actually teamed last May and won the G2 Halton U18 Doubles title. Jones went on to win the 2014 National Doubles title in another tournament.
The duo will arrive in January for the spring season and help the 49ers in their Big West regular season and tournament title defense. The Beach begins its fall season on Sep. 19 at the UNLV Tournament.
