49ers Win Final Games At The Inland Empire Tournament

Claremont, Calif. - Long Beach State won its two games Sunday over Whittier and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in this weekend's Inland Empire Tournament.
The 49ers opened the day with a 16-7 win over Whittier, ranked No. 2 in Division III. Leading 3-2 after the first quarter, the 49ers took a four-goal advantage leading into halftime at 9-5. The Long Beach State defense stepped up for the rest of the way, holding Whittier as the 49ers scored seven goals in the second half.
In the second game, Long Beach State's defensive dominance continued, Claremont-Mudd-Scipts scored the in the first quarter, but the 49ers still held the lead at 3-1. The 49ers poured it on the rest of the way to take a convincing 18-5 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to close out the Inland Empire Classic.
Long Beach State travels to Stockton next week to participate in the NorCal tournament to continue the non-conference part of the schedule. The 49ers will begin play on Saturday, September 20 at noon against Pepperdine.
