Ramirez, Dunne Lead 49ers At 34th UC Riverside Invitational

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Long Beach State sophomore Kevin Ramirez finished in 30th place at the 34th UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday morning at the UCR Agricultural Operations Course in Riverside.
Ramirez covered the men's 8,000-meter course in a personal best of 25:00.7, that featured 239 runners from 29 teams. Ramirez improved by 1:08 from the first race of the season two weeks ago.
The LBSU men's team placed ninth with 252 points. Minnesota captured the team championship with 43 points, edging second-place Southern Utah by five points. UC Santa Barbara finished in third (97 pts.), followed by UC Riverside in fourth (149) and UC San Diego in fifth (155).
Redshirt junior Cameron Pantoja placed 44th (25:17.2), sophomore Sam Bautista in 49th (25:24.3), followed by junior Tim Bergstrom in 68th (25:39.9) and sophomore Andres Velasco in 85th (25:58.7). Bautista and Velasco recorded personal-bests today in Riverside.
Bautista improved by 1:13 from the season-opening Mark Covert Classic, as well as Bergstrom (:34) and Velasco (:45).
Harry Mulenga of Central Arizona came across the finish line in first with a time of 23:56.1.
On the women's side, sophomore Kathleen Dunne was the top runner for the 49ers, finishing the 6K course in 64th with a time of 22:35.3.
LBSU placed 16th with 419 points. Utah Valley won the team title, leading the 23-team field with 95 points. UC Santa Barbara finished in second (113 pts.), followed by UC Riverside in third (129), San Diego State in fourth (135) and UC San Diego in fifth (145).
Sophomore Ashley Carrera placed 72nd with a time of 22:40.1, followed by freshmen Mikayla Florez in 81st (22:47.9) and Alexandra Lathos in 95th (22:57.7).
Sophomore Lali Avila finished in 128th (23:58.7) and freshman Jessica Germany in 145th (24:33.4)
Daniella Moreno of UC Santa Barbara placed first, leading the 172 runners with a time of 20:25.5.
LBSU returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 13, traveling to Northern California for the Stanford Invitational.
