
Mandel, Pantoja Lead 49ers At Stanford Invitational

STANFORD, Cailf. - Long Beach State sophomore Pauline Mandel was the top runner for the women's team finishing in 36th place in the Stanford Invitational at Stanford Golf Course.
Mandel covered the 6,000-meter race at the Stanford Golf Course in a time of 22:02, leading the 49ers to 13th with 386 points.
Stanford captured the team title as the Cardinal led the field of 21 teams with 71 points, winning by 23 points over second place UC Davis.
Freshman Mikayla Florez finished in 122nd with a time of 23:10, followed by sophomore Alexis Trujillo in 128th with a mark of 23:13..
Freshman Alexandra Lathos posted a time 23:27 (154th), followed by sophomores Kathleen Dunne with a time of 24:06 (215th) and Lali Avila in 25:04 (268th).
Abby Regan of Washington State won the individual title, leading the field of 330 runners with a time of 20:31, winning by eight seconds over Raquel Hefflin of UC Riverside.
On the men's side, junior Cameron Pantoja was the top runner for the 49ers finishing in 49th. Pantoja ran a personal best in the 8K recording a time of 24:42, eclipsing his previous best by six seconds.
LBSU placed 14th collecting 323 points in the men's 8K race. Washington State won the team title as the Cougars led the field of 18 teams with 76 points, edging by second-place UC Santa Barbara by one point.
Sophomore Emilio Nunez finished second for the 49ers, placing 103rd with a time of 25:12, followed by junior Tim Bergstrom five seconds behind at 25:17 (111th).
Sophomore Cameron Ford posted a time of 25:30 (142nd), followed by sophomores Andres Velasco (159th) at 25:39 and Kevin Ramirez (188th) at 25:51.
Joe Rosa of Stanford won the individual title, narrowly edging fellow teammate Maxim Korolev as both runners posted the same time of 23:16.
LBSU returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 18, as the 49ers will have split squads traveling to the ISU Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind. and the Highlander Invitational in Riverside, Calif.
