Pantoja, Bautista Run To Top-10 Finish At Highlander Invitational

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Long Beach State junior Cameron Pantoja and sophomore Sam Bautista finished in the top-10, leading the men's team to a third place finish in Saturday's Highlander Invitational at the UCR Agricultural Operations Course.
LBSU collected 66 points to finish just three points behind fellow Big West Conference member Cal State Fullerton in second. Meet host UC Riverside captured the team title with 23 points.
Pantoja led the way for the 49ers, finishing in ninth in the men's 6,000-meter race with a time of 18:19.1. Running right behind was Bautista placing 10th with a mark of 18:20.2.
Sophomore Cameron Ford crossed the line in 16th (18:37.9), followed by sophomore Andres Velasco in 19th (18:41.3) and freshman Kaden Lapham in 56th (19:42.2).
Riverside's Seth Totten led the pack of 77 runners with a time of 17:27.7.
On the women's side, freshman Alexandra Lathos was the top runner for the 49ers, completing the 5K course in a time of 18:34.2.
Freshman Mikayla Florez finished in six seconds behind in 28th (18:40.1), followed by sophomore Kathleen Dunne in 39th (18:55.8) and sophomore Lali Avila in 48th (19:10.2).
Freshman Charlotte Utash placed 51st (19:18.4), sophomore Ashley Carrera in 53rd (19:23.1) and freshman Jessica Germany in 70th (20:11.9).
Raquel Hefflin of UC Riverside crossed the line in first, leading the group of 82 runners in a time of 16:46.6.
The 49ers return to action on Saturday, Nov. 1 as they compete in the Big West Conference Championships in Riverside.
