LONG BEACH, Calif. - Long Beach State's 40th-ranked women's tennis team continued to display its excellence off the court with its 11th All-Academic Team Award. Beach Tennis achieved the prestigious academic award from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for the 11th time in the past 12 years and the 10th year in a row.
The All-Academic Team award goes out to qualifying collegiate teams with a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 or better.
"I am proud of the ladies as they spend so much time on the court while also concentrating on their long range future in the classroom," said head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello. "We ask our players to be student-athletes and are able to provide the support necessary to succeed at both through the generosity of our boosters. Given that tennis is an NCAA two-semester sport, it's a real testament for our program."
Leading the way in the classroom this year were junior Karolina Rozenberg and sophomore Ebba Unden, who both earned individual ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition. In order to qualify for this award, both Rozenberg and Unden posted a GPA better than a 3.50.
LBSU won its 11th Big West Conference championship in 2014 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 11th time in 13 years. The Beach upset Tulsa in the first round of the tournament to advance to the second round where it fell to Stanford. Long Beach State returns to action at the UNLV Fall Invitational September 19-21.
