LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach State Dirtbags suffered an 8-2 loss to Loyola Marymount on Tuesday at Blair Field. The Lions (19-14) used a couple of big innings in the later stages of the game to come out of Blair Field with the win.

The Dirtbags (15-16) received a solid start from Ryan Millison on the mound as he continued his shutout streak. He went four scoreless innings as the Dirtbags took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Millison allowed just two hits and struck out three through his four innings of shutout ball.

The four shutout innings extended Millison's shutout-inning streak to seven. He has not allowed an earned run in his last 14 innings pitched and has allowed just four hits.

In the third inning, Garrett Hampson doubled for the ninth time this season after Colby Brenner was hit by a pitch to put runners on second and third with one out. Ino Patron grounded out to second but Brenner was able to score for the early lead.

With Cody Marshall in to pitch for the Dirtbags, David Edwards tied the game in the fifth with one swing as he hit a solo homer to right field. The Lions followed that up with a four-run sixth to jump out in front 5-1. A walk and three consecutive singles led to the first run and kept the bases loaded. Tommy Cheek's sacrifice fly made it 3-1 and Tanner Donnels singled in two more to push the lead to four.

Donnels brought in another run as a part of a three-run eighth that brought the lead up to 8-1. The Dirtbags were able to get one back in the bottom of the eighth after Patron led off with a double and later scored on Zach Rivera's sacrifice fly.

Patron's double was the 199th hit of his career. Michael Hill also tripled in the sixth for his Big West leading sixth triple of the season.

Marshall suffered his third loss of the season and Brenton Arriaga got the win after throwing five innings in relief and holding the Dirtbags to a run on three hits.

The Dirtbags hit the road this weekend and jump back into their Big West schedule with a three-game set at UC Davis. First pitch is scheduled for Friday at 2:30 p.m.
