DAVIS, Calif. - There were 26 hits combined hits in the game, but most came off the bat of UC Davis the Long Beach State Dirtbags fell 7-5 in the series opener on Friday. Richard Prigatano was 3-for-4 with an RBI, a run scored and two stolen bases in a game that went back and forth a few times before it was settled.

UC Davis (15-15, 2-5 Big West) used 18 hits to score seven times and erased two Dirtbag leads in the process. The Dirtbags (15-17, 2-2 Big West) went up 2-0 in the second only to see three runs cross the plate in the third for the Aggies. Alex Bishop's ground out scored Prigatano to open the scoring and Michael Hill scored two pitches later on a wild pitch.

Four hits in the third led to three runs for the host Aggies with Steven Patterson's first of two doubles in the game scoring two to tie things up. Prigatano's single in the fifth momentarily tied the game at 3-3 but Spencer Brann's single in the bottom of the inning reclaimed the 4-3 lead for the Aggies.

The Dirtbags had another response in the sixth to climb back on top but, again, just for a moment. Colby Brenner singled in Bishop and Hampson hit a sacrifice fly to score Colton Vaughn for a 5-4 lead.

Two doubles and two singles in the bottom of the sixth helped the Aggies quickly erase the deficit and plate three runs for the game's final tally. Raul Jacobson pitched 2.1 scoreless innings for the win and Zach Stone finished it off in the ninth for his eighth save. Nick Rossetta took his first loss on the mound.

Both teams had opportunities to put even more runs on the board as the Dirtbags left five runners in scoring position and UC Davis left eight in scoring position. Dirtbag pitchers ended both the fourth and fifth with the bases loaded.

Long Beach State will look for the series split tomorrow as they face off with UC Davis in the second of a three-game series at 1 p.m.
