
Conner Rouse Highlights Final Day of Triton Invitational

LA JOLLA, Calif. - Sophomore Conner Rouse highlighted the second and final day of the Triton Invitational for the Long Beach State track & field team on Saturday.
Rouse, who was the top collegiate finisher, tied for first overall in the men's pole vault. He cleared a personal-best 17-00, which is tied for ninth in program history. He was followed by Brandon Hierholzer and Niko Althaus, who tied for eighth at 15-05.
Adam Bianchessi registered a season-best 216-11 to come in eighth in the javelin. Jacob Fraser added a pair of top-10 showings, placing eighth in both the shot put (55-07.75) and discus (178-06). Robert Marlow was also 15th in the shot put (46-10.25), while Jason Harrell (183-07) took 17th in the invitational section of the discus throw.
On the women's side, Caitlin Turner established a lifetime-best 2:09.81 to finish fourth in the 800m. Turner moved up three spots to No. 5 among LBSU's all-time top-10.
Catherine Martinez was third in the 1500-meter run, clocking in at 4:32.6.
Melanie Samvalian led a trio of 49ers in the shot put, winning her flight and finishing seventh overall. She produced a personal-record 48-02.5, which ranks eighth in school history. Fatima Vergara (44-02) and Brianna Viltz (41-03) also placed among the top-25.
Natasha Caldwell took 13th in the javelin with a toss of 122-10.
Kayla Kamaka tied for sixth in the pole vault, clearing 12-01.5. Jodi Lambert also came in 16th with a season-best 11-07.75.
At the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, Chris Low won the 800m in 1:51.74. He also combined with Cameron Glasgow, Michael Perez-Rogers, and Dylan McCloskey to take eighth out of 22 teams in the 1600m Sprint Medley. They clocked in at 3:21.88.
Long Beach State will head to Irvine next weekend for the Steve Scott Invitational (May 2-3). It will be the 49ers' final tune-up before kicking off the Big West Championships at UC Davis, May 9-10.
