Beach Tennis Heads To ITA Southwest Regional

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Beach Tennis will wrap up its fall season this weekend at the ITA Southwest Regionals in San Diego, Calif. All six 49ers head to the tournament that features all Division I teams from southern California and Arizona.
Two doubles teams from the Beach are seeded in the top-8 among the 41 pairs competing in the tournament. Hayley Thompson and Ebba Unden enter as the seventh-ranked duo in the tournament while Julie Gerard and Karolina Rozenberg are the No. 8 seed. Maeva Razakasoa and Laura Eales will be the third Beach duo in the tournament and face a Cal State Fullerton duo in the Round of 64 on Thursday. Both seeded duos have a bye in the first round and will begin competition in the Round of 32.
Both Unden and Razakasoa are seeded in the individual draw, which also begins Thursday with the Round of 128. Razakasoa is the No. 14 seed and Unden is the No. 15 seed. Both seeded Beach players receive a bye into the Round of 64 that begins Thursday afternoon.
Rozenberg is not seeded but will also get a bye into the Round of 64. However, her first match will be played against USC's Gabby Smith, who is the No. 10 seed in the regional. Eales, Gerard and Thompson all face the longest road with matchup in the Round of 128 on Thursday morning.
Winners of the double and finalists in the singles brackets will receive an invitation to extend the fall season to the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on November 6-9.
The ITA Southwest Regional begins early Thursday morning and runs through the championship rounds on Sunday.
