Long Beach, Calif. - No. 14 Long Beach State women's water polo travels to San Diego and the Triton Invitational this weekend, and will be playing four matches beginning with two on Saturday, Feb. 11.
Long Beach State moved up one spot in the rankings after a solid showing against San Diego State last weekend, when the 49ers gave the Aztecs all they could handle in a 13-12 loss. Junior Melissa Matheson scored four goals to lead the 49ers, while Julia Garyfallou and Coriann Snyder also each finished with hat tricks for LBSU. Sophomore goaltender Kelly Ringel made 10 saves in her first outing of the season.
In this weekend's action, Long Beach State is guaranteed four matches in the first of four regular-season tournaments for the 49ers. Long Beach State will start off the tournament by playing No. 17 Maryland at 9:20 a.m. on Saturday, and will follow by playing either No. 6 UC Irvine or Marist in the other half of the bracket in the early afternoon.
On Sunday, the 49ers will continue in the draw in the morning before the placement matches begin in the afternoon of the 12th.
After the Triton Invitational, Long Beach State will return home for one home game, playing the hosts of the Triton Invitational, No. 18 UC San Diego at Noon on February 18.
