
Dunbar throws his way to the NCAA Championship

EUGENE, Ore. - Long Beach State senior Colin Dunbar posted a fourth-place finish in the men's hammer throw at the West Preliminary Rounds to advance to the NCAA Championships, June 8-11, in Des Moines, Iowa.
Dunbar threw a distance of 216-05 Friday evening at University of Oregon's Hayward Field to secure the fourth spot. The top 12 individuals move on to the national championships.
Dunbar posted a mark of 213-00 on his first toss which advanced him to the finals of the preliminaries, where he had three more throws. On his fourth attempt of the day, he registered his mark of 216-05 to punch his ticket to the national meet.
Rajan Bains was unable to advance in the hammer as he finished with a toss of 166-03.
Nimrod Piggee and Koree Hines were both in Heat 6 of the 110-meter high hurdles, but neither were able to make it out of the preliminary round. Piggee clocked in at 14.57 seconds (34th), while Hines finished in 15.27 seconds (44th).
Long Beach State will conclude the NCAA West Preliminaries at Hayward Field on Saturday, May 28, with three athletes set to compete in the afternoon. Katrina Graves-Johnson is part of the women's high jump field, which begins at 12:15 p.m., while Colin Dunbar and Cesar Puga are both entered in the men's discus (3:30 p.m.).
