LONG BEACH, Calif. - Freshman pitcher Erin Jones-Wesley has been named to the 2011 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division I All-West Region Second Team.
Jones-Wesley is the first 49er to earn a spot on the all-region team since Jennifer Griffin earned first-team honors in 2009, and she is the first pitcher to claim a spot on the all-region team since Brooke Turner was a first-team pick in 2008.
Earlier this week, Jones-Wesley became just the second pitcher in league history to earn both the Big West Conference Pitcher of the Year award and the Big West Conference Pitcher of the Year honor. Her freshman season has been nothing short of amazing as she leads the Big West in ERA (1.45) and wins (22), while ranking fifth in innings pitched (183.2), second in strikeouts (163), second in opposing batting average (.211) and second in runs allowed (48). Jones-Wesley was just as stellar in conference play, going 11-3 with a 1.55 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 86.0 innings. Jones-Wesley had a number of highlights during her true freshman campaign, including two no-hitters (vs. Baylor and Utah State), two one-hitters (vs. DePaul and Illinois), and winning six Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week honors.
Jones-Wesley heads into this weekend's NCAA Regional Tournament in Tempe, Ariz., among the national leaders in three different categories. She ranks 12th in shutouts (11), 31st in ERA and 40th in victories.
