LONG BEACH, Calif. – A poor start spiraled away from Long Beach State softball in a midweek match with San Diego State, as the Aztecs controlled the contest with both hitting and pitching in a 13-0 win over five innings.
San Diego State (13-8) got rolling right away Wednesday night in an evening that belonged to the Aztecs. The Aztecs started the game with three straight hits to take an early 1-0 lead. Long Beach State (12-9) starter Jailynn Banda picked up her first out, but it would also be her last, as the Aztecs strung together five straight hits, taking a 7-0 lead that also included the removal of star first baseman Priscilla Iniguez, who was hurt on a rundown play in the inning, recording one of the three outs.
The Aztecs added two more runs in the second and four in the third before Lindsey Cowans came on to finally close the door on SDSU, throwing 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.
In the circle for San Diego State, Faith Jordan was in complete command, striking out two and allowing no hits and no walks in a five-inning no-hitter for the Aztecs, improving to 5-1 on the year.
