Long Beach, Calif. - Beach Tennis will play their final two matches of the 2010-11 season at the Rhodes Tennis Center this weekend, hosting Oregon in a non-conference match before taking on No. 42 Cal Poly in a crucial Big West match.
Long Beach State tennis begins the weekend with a non-conference match, hosting Oregon at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 8, as the Ducks come to the Rhodes Tennis Center for the first time since the 2006 season. Oregon enters the week with a 7-9 overall record and are 1-4 in Pac-10 play this season.
After that match, Long Beach State hits the stretch run of conference play as the 49ers take on their last three league opponents prior to the Big West Tournament. The No. 47 49ers start that stretch by hosting No. 42 Cal Poly at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 9.
The Mustangs lead the league with a 6-0 record, currently one game in front of a three-way tie between Long Beach State, UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara at 4-1. The 49ers still have UC Davis on the schedule as well, and can still collect the conference crown with three more wins.
Since Saturday's match with Cal Poly is the final match of the year at the Rhodes Tennis Center, the 49ers will honor their lone senior, Deborah Armstrong, with a brief ceremony prior to the match. Armstrong is the career leader in wins at Long Beach State with 176, is also the career leader in doubles wins with 89, and sits in second place in career singles wins behind four-time Big West Player of the Year Hannah Grady.
