Day One Results

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The Long Beach State track and field team wrapped up a light first day at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational with 16 athletes competing on Friday afternoon.

Tyler Wallace led the men in their only event of the day as he tied for second in the pole vault with a height of 15-08.25. Mark Horist also tied for fourth with a lifetime-best and conference qualifying mark of 15-02.25, while Dillon Fox, Justin Fox and Alex Stewart tied for ninth (14-02.50).

In the women's pole vault, Katelyn Beighton and Amanda Klinchuch tied for third, clearing 11-07.75. It was a season high for Klinchuch, while Beighton matched her season best. Klinchuch and Cheryl Smith (11-01.75), who tied for sixth, were also new conference qualifiers for The Beach.

In the discus, three 49ers had throws of over 140 feet. Jillian Weir finished ninth with a season-long distance of 144-02, while Rhay was 11th at 141-03. Lynn Patu wasn't far behind in 12th, registering a personal-record 140-11.

Rhay was also LBSU's top finisher in the hammer with a mark of 157-05.

Long Beach State returns to Triton Track & Field Stadium tomorrow with the field events beginning at 10 a.m. and the track events getting underway at 11 a.m.
