Long Beach State has strong finish to UCSD Triton Invitational

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The Long Beach State track & field team finished strong with five individual victories on the second day of the UC San Diego Triton Invitational Saturday at Triton Track and Field Stadium.
Colin Dunbar led the way, winning the hammer throw with a toss of 212-07. He also claimed the men's open shot put title at 51-10.50. Dunbar added a fifth-place showing in the discus (168-05).
Over on the track, Nimrod Piggee finished ahead of the pack in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking in at 14.26. Christopher Lawson took third at 14.55, while Koree Hines was fourth (14.98).
Lawson also won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.41.
Richard Crawford had a pair of top-10 performances as he placed fourth in the 100m (11.01) and tied for seventh in the 200m (21.93).
Jonathan Evans was the 49ers' top finisher in the 800-meter run, crossing the finish line in 1:52.51.
Randi Hicks paced the 49er women, winning the javelin with a season-best mark of 162-02.
Sara Macey was the runner-up in the high jump open division, clearing 5-04.50, while Katrina Graves-Johnson was seventh in the invitational group with a height of 5-08.
Jillian Weir led the throwers, coming in fifth in the shot put (44-09).
Phylicia Johnson had a season-best performance in the 100m hurdles. She registered a time of 14.07 into a minus 1.6 headwind to finish second overall.
Rosa Del Toro added two top-10 finishes, taking sixth in the 1500m (4:35.35) and ninth in the 800m (2:17.05).
Long Beach State returns to action next weekend when it heads to the Drake Relays (April 28-30) and the UC Irvine/Steve Scott Invitational (April 30-May 1).
