Long Beach, Calif. - No. 11 Long Beach State women's water polo returns to tournament play this weekend, playing four games as part of the Claremont Convergence on Friday and Saturday. Play for the 49ers begins at 12:40 p.m. on Friday when LBSU faces Cal Lutheran.
The Claremont Convergence brings together a number of the nation's top Division III teams as well as Division I squads, including Long Beach State, UC Irvine, Arizona State and Colorado State.
Long Beach State starts out the weekend by playing Cal Lutheran at 12:40 p.m. on Friday, one of two teams tied at No. 4 in the latest Division III poll. The 49ers then get the No. 6 team in that same poll, Whittier, later in the afternoon.
The 49ers start Saturday's action with the first match of the day, playing No. 7 Arizona State at 9 a.m. Saturday. Long Beach State then closes the tournament by facing the other No. 4 team in Division III, Pomona-Pitzer, at 1 p.m.
One milestone to watch out for is Kristen Stragier's save totals; if the senior makes 21 saves over four games, well under her current pace, she will pass Bri Hawkins as the 49er career leader in saves.
Long Beach State returns home after the weekend's action for one match Tuesday night, hosting Bucknell before taking on another tournament over March 18-19, the LMU Tournament.
