Long Beach, Calif. - No. 42 Women's Tennis hosts three matches this week, as the 49ers return home for their first home matches of the 2011 spring dual season. First up for the 49ers is Hawaii, who comes to the Rhodes Tennis Center on Thursday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m.
The match with the Rainbow Wahine is the first for the 49ers this week, as Big West play continues this weekend, as the 49ers look to continue their regular-season winning streak against Cal State Northridge on Saturday, Feb. 12. That streak currently stands at 20 matches after the 49ers began 2011 with a 7-0 win last week at Cal State Fullerton.
Then, the 49ers will follow up that match with a third home game against Nevada, as the Wolfapck come to the Rhodes Tennis Center for the fifth season in a row. Long Beach State won the last meeting between the teams 7-0 last year, and has taken three out of the last four.
Senior Deborah Armstrong, junior Anais Dallara, and sophomore Sarah Cantlay all went a perfect 4-0 last week in road wins over CSF and LMU. Paired with Dallara, Armstrong won two doubles matches at No. 1 last week, giving her 83 doubles wins in her career, which made her the all-time leader at Long Beach State in doubles wins.
Cantlay, in her second season with the 49ers, has gone undefeated during the dual match season, going 3-0 in three matches at No.5 for Long Beach State. She also won twice last week in doubles with partner Julie Luzar, making her 5-1 overall in the dual match season, the highest win total of any 49er in the early part of the season.
Following the trio of home matches this week, the No. 42 49ers will play their second ranked opponent of the season, heading back to the road to take on No. 58 San Diego State on Friday, Feb. 15.
