LBSU TO OPEN MPSF PLAY AT USC: The 49ers will play its first conference game on Thursday as it travels to play the Trojans at 5:00 pm. USC is ranked number one in the MPSF at 9-2 and first in the CWPA Top 20 Poll.
LONG BEACH STATE HOSTS CAL IN FIRST HOME MATCH: The 49ers play host to Cal on Saturday at 2:00 pm. This will be the teams first home match of MPSF play in which they battle the third ranked Cal Bears.
49ERS RANKED 13TH IN CWPA COACHES POLL: Long Beach State is listen in the Top 20 Coaches Poll for the week of September 28. The entire MPSF conference is ranked in the top 13 position of the poll.
LONG BEACH STATE FINISHES TOURNAMENT WITH TWO WINS: The 49ers completed the tournament on a two game win street with a 13-7 victory over Pomona Pitzer and a 10-6 win against Air Force. Freshman goalkeeper John Mroch totaled 18 saves in the final two games of the tournament, his first career experience.
49ERS 11-3 RECORD IS BEST START SINCE 2007: Long Beach State has already eclipsed the records of the last two seasons, 9-12 in 2009 and 7-15 in 2010. Their record of 11-3 is on pace to break the 2008 record of 14-18. It is the best start for the programs recent history since the 2007 squad opened the season 12-4.
PETROVIC CRACKS TOP 25 IN CAREER GOALS: Senior Alexandar Petrovic entered the top 25 in career goals at Long Beach State when he ran his total to 100 at the SoCal Tournament last weekend. He is tied with his 2009 season total of 35. Petrovic is now ranked 23th all time in scoring at Long Beach State.
PETROVIC THIRD IN GOALS IN MPSF: Alexandar Petrovic is the third leading goal scorer in the MPSF with 35goals. He trails league-leaders Mitch Wise (UCI) and Ivan Rackov (California) who have 41 goals.
49ERS BOAST HIGHEST WIN TOTAL IN MPSF: The 49ers 11 victories is tied for the highest win total in the MPSF after the SoCal Tournament. LBSU (11-3) shares the lead with 11-2 Cal and 11-5 UC Santa Barbara. USC ranks first in win percentage at 9-2.
LBSU HAS SECOND HIGHEST GOAL PER GAME AVERAGE: Long Beach State has scored 179 goals in 14 games for a 12.79 average, which is second in the MPSF. The trail Cal who has scored 172 goals in 13 games for a 13.23 average.
49ERS WIN FINAL TWO GAMES IN NORCAL TOURNAMENT: Long Beach State entered the NorCal Tournament in Stockton, California with a perfect 7-0 record. LBSU finished the tournament with two wins, an 11-8 over St. Francis and a 16-9 decision against Air Force. The first loss of the season came at the hands of MPSF rival UC Irvine, 8-7, the previous day.
49ERS COMPLETE REDLANDS TOURNAMENT 5-0: Long Beach State swept all five of its contests at the Redlands Tournnament, Sept. 9-10, in La Verne, Calif. Aleksandar Petrovic and Brian Schiefer led LBSU in scoring, combining for 25 goals in the tournament.
TEAM STARTS SEASON 7-0 FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 2005: The 49ers matched the 2010 season-win total of seven wins in just as many contests this season. The team had not been undefeated this late in the season since a 9-0 start in 2005. LBSU's current 9-1 record has already broken last season's win total.
LBSU'S 22 GOALS AGAINST LA VERNE IS FIFTH MOST IN SCHOOL HISTORY: Long Beach State scored 22 goals in a decisive 22-5 victory over La Verne at the Redlands Tournament on Sept. 11. The 22 goals tied for fifth all-time at LBSU. The 49es record for most goals in a game is 24 goals on two occasions, most recently during the 1998 season.
RASCON RETURNS FROM USA JUNIOR NATIONAL TEAM: Sophomore Nick Rascon completed his tour with the Junior National Team and made his season debut at the Redlands Tournament scoring two goals in his first game back with the 49ers. The Junior National Team finished the 2011 FINA Junior World Championships in ninth place, with a 4-3 record. Rascon scored eight of the teams 82 total goals during the tournament.
