Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State Tennis was honored for their continued excellence in the classroom, earning an ITA Academic Team Award from the governing body for the sixth straight year. Junior Deborah Armstrong, sophomore Anais Dallara and freshman Anna Jeczmionka also earned individual honors.
Long Beach State earned the team award for the seventh time, given by the ITA to any team that maintains a combined grade point average over 3.20 over the course of the prior year. For the 2009-10 academic year, 49er women's tennis had a GPA of 3.45.
"I am very proud of our student-athletes and their commitment both on and off the court here at Long Beach State," said head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello. "It says a lot about their character to reach the Top 40 in the rankings while maintaining the grades necessary to earn these academic awards year after year."
Additionally, three athletes earned individual ITA Academic Awards for maintaining a cumulative GPA of over 3.50. Armstrong was a recipient of the award for the third time, while Dallara picked up her second award and Jeczmionka was a first-time honoree.
