Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State will look to remain undefeated in Big West play Saturday as the No. 43 49ers take on Pacific at 11 a.m. Saturday. The 49ers will recognize four-time Big West Player of the Year Hannah Grady in a pre-match ceremony by naming Court 1 at the Rhodes Tennis Center in her honor.
Long Beach State will look to have the advantage against the Tigers, who come in unranked, but Pacific has the only ranked singles player between the two teams in No. 122 Jennifer Widjaja. She'll likely face Anais Dallara, who had a key win in Long Beach State's victory over UC Irvine in No. 1 singles, sealing the win for The Beach by beating Stephanie Hammel.
The 49ers have the only ranked doubles pair between the teams, as the duo of No. 60 Jaklin Alawi and Rachel Manasse will head up doubles for Long Beach State on the weekend. The team then returns to the court the next day to face No. 18 Washington on Feb. 28 at 11 a.m.
The 49ers will be dodging the weather on Saturday morning, with a tentative plan to perform the Grady ceremony whatever condition the courts are in (wet or dry), but not if it is raining at the time due to the outside nature of the courts. If the match is cancelled entirely, the ceremony would be postponed one week and be held prior to the UC Davis match on Saturday, March 6.
The official Long Beach State website, www.longbeachstate.com, will continue to have updates if conditions require any changes to the scheduled events for this Saturday.
