Long Beach, Calif. - Beach Tennis is set to begin the spring season on Sunday, January 24 at USC. That match was rescheduled from January 21 due to heavy rains in the Los Angeles area. The 49ers and Trojans will begin play at Noon.
The 49ers are ranked No. 50 to start the season, and feature a ranked doubles team in Rachel Manasse and Jaklin Alawi, who enter the season ranked 58 after a strong doubles season where they won the Fullerton Invitational doubles championship and posted a 4-0 record.
Other returning members for Long Beach State included junior Deborah Armstrong, who owns the most wins among any returning player with 98 in her career, tenth-most in school history. Manasse also returns after a freshman campaign where she played at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles spots, and Anais Dallara returns after a first season where she posted a 20-3 record in singles.
The final returning member for the 49ers is Julie Luzar, who had an outstanding fall season with an 8-0 record in singles play.
Long Beach State also welcomes four newcomers for the 2010 season. Along with Alawi, Anna Jeczmionka also returns to the squad following fall action, rounding out the squad along with Sarah Cantlay and Klaudia Malenovska.
