Big West Battles
Long Beach State begins the key week of the conference season, traveling to No. 27 UC Irvine before hosting No. 75 Cal Poly, matching up the 49ers against the two other ranked foes in the conference. The 49ers head to Irvine on Thursday for a 1:30 p.m. start, and will host the Mustangs at the Rhodes Tennis Center on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Grady On Top
Hannah Grady, already Long Beach State's most decorated tennis player ever, with three Big West Player of the Year honors, picked up another distinction, as Long Beach State's winningest player of all time. Grady, who picked up two doubles wins and two singles wins, including one each over ranked opponents, topped 150 combined wins in her career to pass Stephanie Bengson, who had 148 wins. Grady is already the school's singles record holder, currently standing at 80 singles wins.
The Computer Age
A new set of computer rankings was released by the ITA March 3, which featured a number of interesting changes. Hannah Grady, who was No. 68 entering the spring and dropped out of the rankings on the last computer cycle, reentered at No. 102. The team's ranking stayed stable, dropping just two places to No. 44, but the other Big West schools saw major changes. Cal Poly fell to the very edge at No. 75, while UC Irvine jumped from No. 60 clear to No. 27, leapfrogging the 49ers in the poll.
