Rhodes Is Open
Long Beach State had a bittersweet opening to the Rhodes Tennis Center, as the new stadium impressed but the 49ers lost a tough match with No. 49 Florida International, 4-3. Long Beach State battled to the end, splitting singles after two three-set losses by Deborah Armstrong and Julie Luzar. The 49ers then fell in doubles, as Armstrong and Lisa Sutton cruised to an 8-1 win, but the other two teams lost to drop the match.
Moving Forward
The 49ers have the chance to get back on track in the upcoming weeks. First, the 49ers will head south to play San Diego State on the road in Long Beach State's fourth road game. Then, the team hosts their Big West opener in the Rhodes Tennis Center on Feb. 20, as the 49ers take on winless Cal State Northridge at 2 p.m.
Grady On Top
With her win on Sunday against #87 Lenka Hojckova of North Carolina State, Hannah Grady became the all-time leader in singles wins at Long Beach State. Her 6-2, 7-6 win over Hojckova was her 74th singles win, the most all-time with nearly the entire spring season still to play. Grady also has a shot to take the overall and doubles records for wins in the fall as well, as she currently stands four away from the overall record and 13 away from the doubles mark.
