Sept. 17, 2008
THIS WEEK: The No. 8 Long Beach State 49ers (2-3) will travel to Stockton, Calif. to participate in the 2008 NorCal Tournament (Sept. 20-21), hosted by Pacific.
The 49ers will be in Pool A for the competition, matched up against No. 1 California, No. 9 UC San Diego, and No. 20 Cal Baptist.
LONG BEACH ST. vs. UCSD: The Niners first face No. 9 UCSD (8-1) on Saturday at 9:20 am PT. Long Beach has already defeated UCSD once this season, at the Triton Invite in La Jolla, Calif. two weekends ago. The loss to the Niners has been the Tritons' only loss on the season, and UCSD comes into the NorCal Tournament having just gone undefeated in the Princeton Tournament in Princeton, N.J.
LAST WEEK: Long Beach State is currently ranked ninth in the country and sixth in the MPSF Conference, having lost to conference-leading USC last weekend by a score of 15-8. Three Niners scored two goals each in the match, and goalie Derek Weibe-Bailey nabbed 6 goalie saves.
Long Beach State begins the NorCal Tournament in Game #4 Saturday, beginning at 9:20 am PT in the Chris Kjeldsen Pool. Depending on the outcome of the first game, the Niners will then either play at 1:20 pm PT or 2:40 pm PT. The tournament then continues Sunday, September 21.
