DAVIS--Andrew Liebel (6-2) twirled a six-hitter for his first career shutout, as No. 23-ranked Long Beach State (27-15, 9-4 Big West) won the opener of a three-game series at UC Davis (27-16, 7-6 Big West) 6-0 on Friday afternoon.

Liebel retired the first eight batters of the game and used just 25 pitches over that span en route to a 121-pitch complete game, his third of the season. Liebel pitched to just two over the minimum over the first six innings, allowing just three hits against the Big West's top offense. He finished his afternoon with three of his six strikeouts over the final two innings, stranding three runners on base to preserve the shutout.

Jason Corder fell a triple short of the cycle, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs as LBSU scored six runs on 13 hits off of Eddie Gamboa (6-3). Gamboa had entered the game with a 2.40 ERA and gave up runs in five of his seven innings.

Shane Peterson added four hits, while Steve Tinoco had three, part of a 15-hit attack.

LBSU started early, as Corder hit his eighth home run away from Blair Field in the first, a solo shot to left to make it 1-0. Corder's opposite field shot, was his 12th of the season.

A sacrifice fly in the fourth made it 2-0, before Tinoco's two-out single bounced over the head of the first baseman Evan Hudson, to make it 3-0 in the fifth. An error allowed the fourth run to score in the sixth, before two more came in the seventh.

The series continues on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. Vance Worley (5-2, 4.17) is slated to go for LBSU against RHP Brad McAtee (6-3, 3.36).
