Shared the award with fellow Clemens Award Semifinalist UC Irvine's Scott Gorgen and Cal State Fullerton's Jeff Kaplan ... Became the seventh Long Beach State Pitcher to be named the Big West's top arm ... Started all 15 appearances and went 8-4 ...Led the Big West in ERA (2.22) ... Tallied four complete games and three shutouts ... Led the team in innings pitched with 117.1 ... Struck out 97 and walked 19 ... Named pre-season All-Big West by Rivals.com.
MLB and Summer League: Played with teammate Shane Peterson on the Anchorage Bucs in the 2006 Alaska Summer League, going 2-2 with a 3.30 ERA over 22 appearances... tossed 43.1 innings, striking out 37 and walking 37... gave up 38 hits... drafted by the Cubs in the 47th round in the 2004 draft.
2007 (Junior): Named second team All-Big West after leading the Dirtbags with a 9-3 record and 2.84 ERA over 25 games and six starts... produced a career-best 2.84 ERA over a team-high 101.1 innings, allowing just 98 hits... picked up lone save of the year with three shutout innings by one hitting USC on February 4... got the wins in relief at Rice (3.1 shutout innings, retiring 10 in a row) and against California with a then career-high 4.2 innings of one unearned run ball... did not allow an earned run until a two-run homer at ASU gave him his first loss on March 9... had a 3-1record with a 0.74 ERA to start the year following the Wichita State series... retired the final 13 batters in six innings of relief work against Oral Roberts to earn the win on April 5 and produced a 1.64 ERA to stat the year... made his first start on April 27, winning at Pacific with 7.2 innings of three-run, nine-hit ball... won next start against Cal Poly with 6.1 innings... won his final two starts at Cal State Fullerton on May 26 and against Pepperdine on June 2 with a complete game 11 hitter (three runs)... lost 2-1 to UC Riverside with nine innings of work on May 19 for only loss as a starter (4-1).
2006 (Sophomore): One of the team's more reliable relievers, appearing in 24 games out of the bullpen and producing a 3.00 ERA over 30.0 innings... struck out 25 and walked 12 as opponents batted .279 off of 34 hits... in 17 of his 24 outings, gave up no runs... longest outing of the season came on May 28 in the second game of the doubleheader with Cal State Fullerton, when he pitched 2.2 shutout innings and struck out three... he had given up two runs (one earned) in the first game over 1.1 innings... four times pitched two innings out of the pen, pitching two shutout innings over UCLA at Blair on February capping a streak of no runs over three appearances in late February; two shutout innings with a career-best four strikeouts on April 11 at San Diego State to produce a 1.76 ERA over his first 12 appearances and 2.0 shutout innings on April 30 against Pacific giving the sophomore a 2.45 ERA over his first 18 appearances... also picked up a win in relief of starter Donnie Hume on April 23 at UC Davis, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings... only loss was at CS Northridge on May 10 as he gave up the game-winning run in the 10th inning in a continued game from earlier in the year... only save was on May 20 at UC Riverside as he pitched a scoreless ninth.
2005 (Freshman): Appeared in 11 games as a freshman, going 0-2 with a 5.11 ERA over 12.1 innings... struck out four and walked six, giving up 15 hits... opponents batted .294 against him... hurled a season-high 3.0 innings on April 12 at Pepperdine, retiring the first nine batters he faced, before giving up one hit... watched his ERA rise to end the year, giving up four earned runs over 2.0 innings to take a loss at LMU and a no-decision against Pacific in mid April... had a 2.61 ERA prior to those two relief appearances.
High School: Lettered two years in baseball... named the team MVP as a senior after picking up four wins and five saves over 45 innings of work... also produced a 1.75 ERA and struck out 65 to earn first team all-league honors.
