49ers to Host LMU on Thursday

LONG BEACH--Long Beach State Water Polo (11-12, 3-6 MPSF) will begin their final push of the season, hosting their final seven regular season games at home, beginning with Loyola Marymount (13-8) this Thursday at 3 p.m. at the campus pool. The 49ers have split their last six games.
The 49ers, who dropped two games over the weekend in the San Francisco Bay Area, will have three matches remaining in conference play, against Hawaii on April 11 and against UC Irvine (April 17) and USC (April 20). LBSU is 3-2 at home this season.
The 49ers will also host the one-day LBSU Tournament on April 31, featuring six games, of which three will be played by the 49ers. LBSU is currently in 10th place in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
The Lions have been on a roll as of late, winning seven straight and nine of their last 10. The 49ers are 10-7 all-time against the Lions, but LMU has won the last three straight. Nicole Hughes leads the club with 53 goals, while Eliana Arellano has made 140 saves.
Senior Dayna Wawrzynski continues to lead the club in scoring with a career-best 42 goals this season. Wawrzynski, who surpassed her career total of 23, in just her final year, ranks 12th in the MPSF in scoring at 1.8 goals per game. Freshman Lauren Sieprath, a member of the New Zealand National Team, rnaks 21st in scoring with 31 goals and a 1.6 goal per game average.
Freshman Kristen Stragier, who has logged a majority of the minutes in goal, ranks eighth in the league in saves with 8.3 per game. Defensively, LBSU ranks 11th out of 13 teams, with their scoring average is ninth.
