SAN JOSE-- San Jose State (11-10, 3-5 MPSF) opened up the match with two goals in the first period and kept in front the rest of the way, defeating visiting Long Beach State (11-12, 3-6 MPSF) 8-5 on Sunday afternoon. Branwyn Lee had two goals in the loss for the 49ers, who dropped both games in their trip to the Bay Area. Kendra Adama had 11 saves for the Spartans, including several at point-black range.
Adrianna Vogt and Bridget McKee each scored three times for the Spartans in the win.
After San Jose State went up 2-0 after the first period, two field blocks by the Spartans prevented at least one goal from scoring as SJSU extended the lead to 3-1 at the break. Both teams exchanged goals in the third quarter with the Spartans keeping the lead at 5-3. Vogt scored two of her three goals in the fourth quarter as the Spartans outscored LBSU 3-2.
