49ers Fall to Third Ranked Team, Fall 6-1

LONG BEACH-- No. 33 LSU (2-0) rebounded after losing the doubles point to take all six singles points to defeat host No. 38-ranked Long Beach State (2-3) 6-1 on Saturday afternoon. All three of the 49ers losses this year have been to teams ranked in the top-35.
LSU won in straight sets in three early singles matches with No. 2 player Mykala Hedberg, No. 3 Tiffany Tucker and No. 6 Staten Spencer to take a commanding 3-1 lead. Hannah Grady was able to take No. 8 singles player Megan Falcon to three sets, but lost after rebounding after a 7-6 first set loss, winning 6-3, before losing 6-3 in the third set.
The 49ers took the doubles point paced by their No. 1 team of Grady and Stephanie Bengson, as they defeated Tiffany Tucker and Falcon, 8-3, after the No. 30-ranked team of State Spencer and Mykala Hedberg defeated Stephanie Jeanes and Jessica Weeks, 8-6. The 49ers received the No. 3 match after Anastaslya Dobova could not finish due to a left ankle injury with LBSU leading 2-1.
The 49ers host San Diego State next Saturday, while LSU travels to Pepperdine on Monday.
