WOODLAND, Calif. -- Senior Ash Blythen and junior Derek Wiebe-Bailey were selected to the All-MPSF team following the 2008 season as announced by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF).
Blythen, the 49ers' second-leading scorer, and Wiebe-Bailey, fifth on the national list of goalie saves per game, were selected to the MPSF third-team for the 2008 season.
Blythen notched 47 goals this season, putting him in the position of the team's second-leading scorer for the year. Eight of those 47 goals came in the end-of-the-season MPSF Conference Tournament, including five against Stanford in their tournament opener. Blythen tabbed six hat tricks in the season, and was a leader in the pool for the 49ers all season long.
With 281 saves in 31 games played, Wiebe-Bailey's name appears as a top-five goalie in the 2008 season. In taking over the goalie position from Steve MacKenzie, Wiebe-Bailey has maintained the high standard expected from Long Beach State goalkeepers.
Long Beach State ended their season with a 14-18 (2-9) record, finishing eighth in the MPSF Conference and ninth in the nation.
