49ers Ranked No. 41 to Start the Spring
LBSU Ready to Defend Their Big West Conference Title

LONG BEACH-- Long Beach State Tennis, which reached its fifth NCAA Tournament in the last six years, is ranked No. 41 in the first ranking to start the spring season. The ranking is the second highest in school-history for this time period, behind last year's start of No. 28. Last year's team finished No. 40 nationally.

This year's team returns four players from last year, including two-time Big West Player of the Year, Hannah Grady and all-conference selections Stephanie Bengson and Jessica Weeks. Including the team's two fall freshmen in Deborah Armstrong and Lisa Hagele, the 49ers will welcome Australian National Stephanie Jeanes and British citizen Lisa Sutton to the courts this spring. Senior Emmanuelle Tabatruong and Bengson are the team's only seniors.

The 49ers also continued their stellar work in the classroom as five of the six players in the fall received 4.0 GPAs. Prior to this semester, the tennis team had had nine of the last 12 highest GPAs amongst athletic teams at LBSU. The program's fall GPA was 3.78.

The 49ers will open up the Fall on January 19 when they host San Diego for a match at El Dorado Park starting at 1:30 p.m.
