49ers Post-Season Hopes Dwindle With Split In game one, Bridgette Pagano went the distance picking up her ninth shutout of the season allowing just four hits and a walk while striking out six. Whitney Radcliff had a pair of hits and an RBI to lead the 49er offense as they scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jennifer Davis took the loss for the Gauchos as she gave up no earned runs on five hits and one walk, while striking out six. Panita Thanatharn led off the fifth inning with a single and advanced to second when Brooke LeSage laid down a bunt and a Gaucho throwing error allowed everyone to be safe. After recording an out, Davis issued a walk to Breezy Goad to load the bases before Franciska Morlet hit a one-hopper right back to Davis who made an errant throw home to allow Thanatharn to score. An RBI single from both Ashley Levine and Radcliff gave the 49ers a 3-0 lead and Pagano was able to shut the Gauchos down the rest of the way. It was a rematch in game two as both Pagano (19-10) and Davis (14-13) went the distance in the nightcap and this time Davis came out on top with a 2-1 win. Davis held the 49ers hitless until the bottom of the seventh inning when Jessica Beaver hit her 10th homerun of the season. UCSB scored once in the fifth when Liz Walters led off with a walk and eventually came around to score on a Tisha Duran single. The Gauchos struck again in the top of the seventh when they loaded the bases and a two-out walk issued by Pagano brought home what proved to be the winning run. Jessica Beaver broke up the no-hitter as she led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo homerun, but the 49ers couldn't get the tying run across as they fell 2-1. The rubber game will take place tomorrow at 1 pm at the 49er Softball Complex as seniors Kourtnee Gervasi and Panita Thanatharn will be honored before the last home game of their careers. |
