Beach Wins 6-0 Over CSUF

INDIAN WELLS, CA-- Long Beach State rolled to a 6-0 win over Cal State
Fullerton in a quarterfinal match in the Big West Tennis Championships
at Indian Wells Tennis Gardens on Friday morning. The #2 seed 49ers improved
to 15-8 on the year while the #7 seed Titans ended their season at 6-16.
The 49ers, who have won three consecutive Big West Championships, have
now won 10 consecutive Big West Tournament matches dating back to 2004.
Long Beach clinched the doubles point to begin the day by winning at the
#2 and #3 spots. At two doubles, Hannah Grady and Jessica Weeks defeated
Shelly Injejikian and Cheyenne Inglis 8-5. At three doubles, Sandra Rocha
and Rachael Porsz won 8-4 over Jerusha Cruz and Katrina Domela.
The 49ers rolled in singles action, winning all of its matches in straight
sets. Katy Williams was the first to close out a victory winning 6-3,
6-2 at #2 singles over Mai-Ly Tran. Rocha won at #5 singles 6-4, 6-1 over
Inglis and Weeks clinched the match for the 49ers with a 6-2, 6-0 win
over Injejikain at #4 singles.
With the match officially over, both teams continued to play and Long
Beach prevailed at #6 and #1 singles to make the final score 6-0.
Long Beach advances to Saturday’s semifinals where they will take
on the winner of Friday afternoon’s match between Cal State Northridge
and Pacific at 3 pm.
