Beach Takes Two at UC Riverside In game one, Bridgette Pagano (14-9) went the distance allowing two earned runs on five hits en route to her 14th win of the season. The 49ers helped out Pagano on the offensive end racking up 12 hits. Whitney Radcliff contributed three hits and two RBI, while Brianna Goad went 2-for-3 with her second homerun of the year. The Beach pushed three runs across in the second inning as Brooke LeSage led off with a double and scored on Goad's two-run homer. Franciska Morlet then walked and advanced to second on a passed ball before Radcliff doubled to bring her home. The 49ers continued to produce in the third inning as they scored three runs on two hits, highlighted by Morlet's RBI single. The Highlanders were able to score two runs in the fourth inning with two extra base hits before the 49ers came back to score one in the fifth (Radcliff singled home LeSage) and one in the sixth (Thanatharn singled home Lacy Tyler). In game two, Melissa DeMarco (1-0) picked up her first win of the season as she gave up two runs on four hits while striking out three in four innings of relief, while Pagano picked up her first save of the season. Jessica Beaver had two homeruns and three RBI to lead the 49er offense. Long Beach State scored first in the second inning when Goad singled home Thanatharn, but the Highlanders came right back in the bottom half of the inning to score two on an April Murray single. UCR was able to push three more across in the third thanks to a three-run homerun from Lauren Bauer. Trailing 5-1, the 49ers slowly started to chip away and came within one run in the fifth inning after a two-run homerun from Beaver. The 49ers took a 6-5 lead in the top of the sixth when Radcliff's double plated Goad and Ashley Levine hit a sacrifice fly to score Morlet. That lead was short lived as UCR came right back to go up 7-6 on a two-run homerun from Marissa Alvidrez, but the 49ers wouldn't give up coming back to score two in the top of the seventh, with Beaver's second homerun of the game and LeSage scoring what proved to be the winning run on a wild pitch as Pagano came in to shut down the Highlanders in the bottom half of the inning. The 49ers will complete their series with UCR tomorrow with a single game at noon.
