Beach Wins 7-0 Over UCSB

LONG BEACH, CA-- Long Beach State seniors Sandra Rocha and Rachael Porsz
played their final home match of their 49er careers on Wednesday and went
out on a winning note. The 49ers rolled to a 7-0 win over visiting UC
Santa Barbara at the Campus Courts to improve to 14-8 overall and finish
6-1 in the Big West. The Gauchos fell to 10-9 overall and 3-3 in league
play.
Rocha, a four-year letterwinner, and Porsz, a three-year player, won both
their singles and doubles matches on Wednesday. In doubles, the pair teamed
up at the #3 spot defeating Tova Hausman and Brittany Kausen 8-3. In singles
play, Rocha won at #5 singles with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Kausen while Porsz
won at #6 singles 6-2, 7-5 over Bryanna Ojeda. Rocha is the career leader
in overall wins in school history as she now has posted 143 victories
(63 singles, 80 doubles). Porsz has placed her name in the record books
as well as she stands at #6 all-time with 97 career wins (49 singles,
48 doubles).
The 49ers won all three doubles matches to begin the day with a 1-0 lead.
At #1 doubles, Stephanie Bengson and Katy Williams won 8-2 over Marta
Simic and Charlotte Scatliffe. At #2 doubles, Hannah Grady and Jessica
Weeks won 8-1 over Asagi Onaga and Carina Bjornstrom.
In singles, the 49ers won all six matches in straight sets. At #1 singles,
Grady prevailed 6-1, 3-0 retired over Simic while Williams won at #2 singles
6-2, 6-1 over Scatliffe. Bengson won 6-1, 6-1 at #3 singles over Onaga
and Weeks closed out the sweep with a 6-1, 6-2 win at #4 singles over
Hausman.
Long Beach will next be in action at the Big West Conference Championships,
April 27-29 at Indian Wells. The 49ers will be the #2 seed at the tournament
and will play the #7 seed on Friday.
