Corder Drives in Two in Series Win
Shaw Posts First Save Since March 16

LONG BEACH, CA--Jason Corder drove in two runs as part of a 2-for-3 day, while Bryan Shaw picked up his first save since March 16 in leading No. 26-ranked Long Beach State (20-12, 3-2 Big West) to a series clinching 4-2 win over visiting CS Northridge (13-24, 1-7 Big West) on Saturday.

Shaw made it interesting in the ninth, loading the bases, but striking out the side, including John Parnham and Jowen Murray-Thornton on back-to-back strikeouts to end the game with the bases loaded.

Back-to-back RBI doubles by Corder and Robert Perry put LBSU up 3-1 lead in the sixth. Corder's sacrifice fly in the first put LBSU on the board and made it 1-0. Joe Rocchio (1-5) gave up three runs over five and one third innings for the loss.

Adam Wilk (2-0) gave up a run in an inning of relief work, but won for the second time, before giving way to Andrew Liebel who went the next one and one third shutout innings. Shaw started the ninth for The Beach.

LBSU starter Omar Arif got into trouble in the fifth putting runners on the corners with one out in a 1-1 game. Dustin Rasco came on and got a strikeout of Jorge Andrade, Jr. and then a flyball to keep it tied. Arif would give up one run over four and one-third innings, giving up just five hits on the night.

Andrade, Jr. had some payback in the seventh as his RBI double cut the deficit to 3-2 in the top of the seventh, before an RBI double by pinch hitter Chris Nelson then made it 4-2 after the seventh inning stretch.

The finale of the series is Sunday at 1 p.m.
