STOCKTON, CA-- The #49-ranked Long Beach State women’s tennis team
improved to 13-8 on the season, and 5-1 against Big West Conference foes,
with a 7-0 win at the University of the Pacific on Friday afternoon. The
Tigers fell to 6-12 with the loss.
The 49ers began the afternoon by winning the doubles point. At #1 doubles,
the 49er duo of Stephanie Bengson and Katy Williams won 8-1 over the Tigers
top doubles tandem of Jolanta Twarowska and Helen Schneider. At #2 doubles,
Hannah Grady and Jessica Weeks defeated Vana Mrazovic and Svenia Arens
8-7 (4), while Sandra Rocha and Rachael Porsz won at #3 doubles over Sasha
Fisher and Carla Tamborini, 8-2.
In singles, Long Beach won all six singles matches, five in straight sets.
At #1 singles, Grady rolled to a 6-2, 7-5 win over Mrazovic. Grady is
ranked #122 in the nation in singles action this year. At #2 singles,
Williams prevailed in a hard-fought three-set match, winning 6-1, 1-6,
7-6 (5). Bengson won at #3 singles 6-4, 6-3 over Arens while Weeks won
at the #4 spot 6-3, 6-2 over Schneider. Rocha was a straight set winner
at #5 singles as she defeated Clara Schumacher 6-3, 6-4 and Porsz closed
out the win with a 6-3, 6-1 win at #6 singles over Fisher.
Long Beach will next be in action on Saturday when the play at UC Davis
at 10 am.
