MALIBU, CA-- The 49er women’s tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision
at #22-ranked Pepperdine on Friday afternoon. The 49ers, who are ranked
#44 nationally, fell to 10-8 on the season while the Waves improved to
13-7.
Pepperdine got off to a strong start by winning two of the three doubles
matches to earn the doubles point. The Waves won at #1 doubles as Sylvia
Kosakowski and Katia Sabate won 8-4 over Stephanie Bengson and Katy Williams.
At #2 doubles, Eva Dickes and Anete Bandere won 9-7 over Hannah Grady
and Jessica Weeks. The 49ers did capture #3 doubles as Sandra Rocha and
Emmanuelle Tabatruong won 9-8 over Jillian Braverman and Tania Rice.
In singles action, Grady picked up a big win at #1 singles as she defeated
#53-ranked Kosakowski in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Grady is ranked #119
in the nation in the latest ITA singles rankings. The win was her fifth
this season over a nationally-ranked opponent. The other 49er victory
came at #3 singles as Bengson prevailed 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 over Dickes. Bengson
has currently won nine consecutive singles matches this spring and owns
a 13-4 mark in singles play.
The 49ers will next be in action on Tuesday, April 3 when they play at
Brown University in Providence, RI. They continue their East Coast swing
with a match at Boston College on Wednesday.
